Is there any difference between a Mercury and a Mariner of the same year model and HP? Or is it like a Honda Passport and Isuzu Rodeo...same thing, different stickers?????

Re: Mercury VS. Mariner

There really is no such thing as a Mariner. It's either a Yamaha, Mercury, or Tohatsu. In the 80s, most below 60Hp were Yamahas. All larger have been Mercs all along. It was in the 90s that the Merc and Marner lines fully merged offerings. The little Merciners (Under 8Hp) are generally Tohatsus since sometime in the 90s.

Perfect, that is what I needed to know. I am going to purchase a manual for my outboard, and I just wanted to verify that fact before buying a Merc manual and finding out that there were small differences that might not have been covered. Thank you for the information.

After assembly the engines are tested, the ones that fire right up get painted black and the hard starters get grey :D
