Sorry, I'm a noob. I am in the process of replacing my impeller. While at it, I noticed the top of my water pump looking odd. Since this is my first time ever, I dont know what is normal, or warning signs...
I noticed the inside hole where my housing touches the shaft looks all chewed up.
I know I had some water mixed in the lower unit when I drained it this past fall. Could tell by the color. I was hoping it was just from the drain plugs....
Anyways, there was some water trapped inside the water pump when I pulled it out. Surprised me. Inside of it, you can see a little bit of some kind of plastic sticky out.
See some surface rust on the bottom of the shaft.
Is this normal? I dont really know what needs to be replaced now.
So I removed the bottom seal on the waterpump. There's another seal inside, but it seems to be attached to the waterpump housing? So I stretched the seal down like unrolling a sock I guess to flush out the gunk that's stuck inbetween. It looks like little bit of pieces of the plastic washer above and below the impeller. The washers were not in place when I removed the impeller. Only half of 1. So I guess it got ripped apart and got inbetween the pump seals.
The 2 oil seals themselves look good to me. The ones with the metal ring spring. Now looking over the manual, do I need to use the waterpump tool? I dont even understand what it's talking about. Doesn't make sense to me. :doh:
May just order a new assembly and call it good. Or maybe I can just reuse this one and save $50?
