Just purchased a hurricane deck boat with a 1993 mercury 150. took it out today 1st time and it will only run about 1000 rpm. push throttle fwd more and it bogs down. back off to 1000 and it runs good. I am no outboard mechanic but I have checked compression. all 6 are at or very near 110. new plugs. Could it be carb rebuild time? or is there something else I should look at. The oil injection has been removed and gas is premixed at 50 to 1 . Any help will be appreciated. serial of motor is OD198657

Possibly high speed winding on stator is bad or carbs are clogged. Just my .02

Fuel pump rebuild, check the filter in the fuel can, clean the carbs, put additive in fuel.

I've seen carbs do this when they need a rebuild/clean out. Did you try to push it hard past the 1000? Sometimes, they'll push through and run good at the top of the range.

Sorry for the issues with your new boat.

As a lesson to all who read this, this is why you should always take a boat for a test drive before you purchase it.

Used boat sellers are worse than a used car salesman.

I totally agree but this time he started it and because no lake test I only paid 1200 for the boat, trailer and a mercury 150 that I may spend 800 on.

Got the boat back today. Runs and idles great. $792. included new stator, carb adjustment and lake test. I am happy with it. the 150 motor is probably worth more than I have in boat motor and trailer.
