Wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and I hope Santa piles many splendid boating parts under your tree this year!

Ive been busy chasing bambi around the woods and havent been around much so thought Id see if everyone was still kicking. Heading out with the muzzleloader in a couple hours to see if I can fill some more empty freezer space.

Couple pictures from this years firearm camp.

Great to see ya Charlie! Glad you were able to get in the wood this fall, not so much for me. I have some catch up hunting to take care of in 12.

We lease the farm for the week, its the owners barn. He does let us use the outhouse though.

Big difference between mountain states and midwest states PS. I was stationed at FE Warren AFB in Cheyenne. Coming from Chicago and Detroit my whole life it was quite an adjustment. There are NO people out there. There are 10 million in Michigan.

Hunting was great there, fishing was ok.

Nice lookin Bambi. I've pretty much given up deer hunting, lost the taste for the meat. It always leaves an aftertaste in my mouth, no matter how the meat's taken care of. F and G won't let me just give the meat away either, too bad as I the there are way too many deer here, and they are all right next to houses. A couple neighbors shot 3 big bucks, 5 point each side, and two 3 point each side just behind my house within 5 minutes and 200 yards of one another. Must of been one hot doe. Been trying to get a permit to eat this guy for 2 years now. He's been living most of the time within a 1/4 mile of my house. Not as big as the one shot here 5 years ago, but he is still growing.

If you go south towards MOOOOOSCOW they might give you a permit. LOL Do you hunt turkeys there I see them every trip i make to Camp Bay.. Did you ever check out the Starcraft along the road its close to Livermore lake. He Has visions of grander. Toid ne he wanted 6 bills Thousand that is for a really ugly boat and a unknown motor .

They give permits up here too, but you have to be drawn. As for Turkeys, we discussed that when you were here. Too many, I keep thinking about using a bow, but my luck they's fly away and land on the road and someone would freak out. Haven't checked your boat out up there yet, I'm interested in http://spokane.craigslist.org/boa/2744453445.html which I believe belonged to a former contributor here. My memory isn't real good, but I remember a guy from Post Falls with I think a Chieftain he was or did rebuild. We discussed Lake CDA a couple times. But this is CB's thread. Everyone here has to compete with their game animals.

CB - I love combo outhouse/blind. It gives new meaning to "shoot or get off the pot". LOL Nice doe too.

CBG - I love the tent and the outhouse, err blind. Snow on opening day, how far north were you? Nic doe.

I was in Cheboygen, no luck for me, but the guy I went with got a 4 point. I picked up a good doe (125#) 2.5 years old the first weekend, went to Fort Custer , by Battle Creek. Picked up a second doe that tried to commit suicide on a nice ladys car, she asked me to finish it off, then asked me if I wanted it. My version of road hunting. That one was a 160lb doe.

Note to heyyou325 -The deer in lower Michigan a basically cattle, most are corn and bean fed, they taste as good or better than ground beef. I think the last estimated population number I heard was 1.8 million deer in the state, over half are in the southern counties.

Re: Merry Christmas and some hunting pictures

The Whitetails here spend most of their time in among houses eating gardens and flowers. I've got a fair sized apple orchard. My wife has declared war on them, invites all the neighbors. Whitetails usually dress 150 to 200, and they are thick. You have to cut all the fat out immediately, as you are field dressing, or it leaves an aftertaste in your mouth. Mule deer you have to look for, usually high in the mountains, and a big one may go close to 300, not near as fatty either. The Moose are running the Elk out. I used to have an Elk herd come by every couple of weeks, but they don't like the Moose, and I haven't had them in about 10 years. Those imported wolves are decimating the Elk too. We had Timber wolves, just not many. The government decided we needed the Canadian Grey Wolf which is about twice the size, and appetite. Elk is their favorite prey. They've got most of the timber wolves killed off now. Kill a few black bear, and even chase the Cougars. Haven't heard of them killing any of them, but not sure.

Re: Merry Christmas and some hunting pictures

This was me last year, main hunting group took a break for the day (they had the pickup) so two of us took my blazer...

I was keen on just strapping to the front of the grille, but he talked me into laying it partial on the hood... :p

DeerHood.jpg

Where we were staying was a protected area, so there were lots of deer hanging out with out a care in the world until we drove in.

One deer took a double take, and I swear I saw eyes bug out right before they ran. :D (friends deer pictured above)

My deer on my way home (slim pickings, kept us going through the winter tho :) )

Still makes me laugh, I had this lady pass me by covering her eyes with her hand. :p haha
(I had actually put a sock over the deers head, noidea where it went)
