Received a mortgage escrow "shortage" statement yesterday to cover my tax increase and my insurance increase........ Just falls into the category of unexpected expenses......... Merry Christmas here is your $409 check......

Oh two of my trucks are due renewal on the registrations.... oh....the rates went up again..... another $244 check......

Oh joy it's a trinity of good news...... my electric bill has gone up almost 9%.....Just another check to mail out.......

I feel like Santa Clause suffered three deep wounds from thugs :(

Escrow shortage and my life insurance premium being due....always a merry Christmas. I guess on the bright side, this is the first year I've been able to just pay the damn shortage when the bill arrived without trying to figure out where the money was going to come from. Also, my son's Christmas presents are all bought. No one else's are but at least the most important is taken care of and that's a load off.

I'm used to the escrow shortage statement. I only got an overage once because they overestimated stuff. I got a refund that year but it has been short every year since.

BTW, you owed me a prop Bob. I'll take a check for $400. :D

My birthday is in December. I got the tag renewels for my boat, my personal truck, my work truck, my work trailer, my wife's car, and my motorcycle all due within 2 weeks!

Then add Christmas, mortgage, brother's birthday (he's not gettin' crap this year), shop rent, electric, water, cable, food, yadda-yadda-yadda and people wonder why I never have the Christmas spirit!?!

I dumped my escrow at the first opportunity. Now I'm responsible to pay my own homeowners insurance and property taxes. And I'm a lot better at it than any mortgage service company that I've ever been subject to.

Should have done what I did many years ago. Play 3 card monte with the mortgage broker. Do it right on his desk. If he looses, which he will, you are mortgage free. :D

Actually, I took a 15 year mortgage and made additional payments to principal as I was able. Paid off the mortgage 6 years early. $50 or $75 a month goes a long way.

Are your property values going up? Values and property taxes have dropped here.

Re: Merry Christmas to Mortgage Company and more

Property values went up over a year ago when the market was strong and they did a town wide valuation.....

Taxes increased related to increasing insurance, construction, fees, etc and my homeowner's insurance took a jump (which it does yearly too ;()...... just your basic increases. We only have a small town of 5000 and the tax base will never grow. We have no industry.......

My life insurance was a blindsided slap to my VGLI when I hit 55......

Sorry to hear about the increase. Five years ago we did a re-fi figuring that 4 years from then we would put the house on the market. Talk about poor planning. After 14 months, still no takers. However, we did a 5/1 ARM and with the LIBOR hovering around 0, our house payments went down $250 a month. Then, the house insurance premium went down as did our car insurance. Couple that with my health insurance premiums staying level, we feel like we hit a lottery.

'Course, the electric company just got a 9% rate hike. Seems as though all of their customers energy saving efforts made a major hit to their income, so they get to raise rates; again.
