good morning , i need a little help, i have a 1980 or 1981,or a 1983 7.5 merury which has not run in years,and now can't start , i have spark at the plugs and i have dumped gas straight into each piston and she will not fire could i have a coil low on spark or a faulty swich box , this motor is thunder bolt ignition ,serial number is 7029251 ,any help would be welcome ,tks in advance ,budt

here is what i have always done to find out if a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke will at least fire.

if you have access to an air compressor it helps.

#1 new plugs,while the plugs are out,crank the motor while blowing out
the cylinders .reinstall the plugs.
#2,hook up the fuel as normal, if it is a top tank, open the fuel valve.
#3 spray some carb cleaner in the carburetor, and crank it.

if you have spark, and compression IT WILL FIRE.
if it wont keep running
you need to clean the carb, and probably replace the fuel pump KIT
also the reed valves might be stuck.carb cleaner will help there too

OP,

You said you have spark so maybe it's not an ignition problem.

Do a compression test.
