Metal core plug wires. OK to use on Mercury 9.8?

I made some new plug wires for a Johnson motor. Book said the metal core wires were just fine so for 35cents a foot and a couple of bucks for some ends I saved a lot of money making my own.

Can I do the same with this 9.8 Mercury? The wires on it now are original and 37 years old. It is about time....

Metal core wire OK on this??
