Im new to the Forum and I need some help. I purchased a bass boat that has been in the sun for its life and the paint or clear has faded really bad. I have been doing some research about it but still am not sure I want to tackle the job of reclearcoating. Has anyone here ever reclearcoated a metal flake finished boat? It seems that a clear called imron has lots of good comments on the web. Any help offered would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Imron is an outstanding product - an really good choice for your project. However if you have no experience in spraying I would leave it to the pro's. Many reasons for that statement, the #1 being protection. Secondly that's some pretty expensive stuff. Hate for you to 'kinda' figure it out and ruin the batch.

I'm just about to have imron sprayed. My metal flake is too far gone i.e. if you sand it at all it turns to silver. very rough. I'm using the big flake Glastron used to use so it requires some expertise (nozzle, ball in bucket, shaking) the background will be similar to the color (gold) to make it look full.

So far I have found it at $250 per gallon that includes an additive that you need. I have some spraying time but not on fiberglass. I am not sure about the prep though some people have said use 600 grit and some people have saig 350grit any ideas on this?

I hear 350, but I'm using 250. Not really sure on that, just an average I've heard. I'll prime it first. The metal flake ' getting at GCP in WA. Found it on the classic glastron site. www.classicglaston.com
