I have a very reliable 1996 looper Evinrude 115hp V4, never had a problem with it (knock on wood), still runs strong and is quiet and happy at half to full throttle. I'm noticing this summer that when I start it up it seems to idle and make a bit of a metallic ringing (perhaps even pinging?) sound while it idles though it still runs fine and is happy to throttle up and take off. When I then bring it back to idle after running a bit the sound is gone.
It's still doing its own VRO and oil consumption seems adequate so I let it continue on its merry way. Just wondering if any of the OMC guru's on here might know what the sound could be and if I should just let sleeping dogs lie or look into it?
This is the best motor I've ever owned, lots of hours on it at this point, never a problem, raised on OMC red oil and premium gas, always....
