Ed,I believe they used a wood one, altho I've adapted a cheepo aluminum one by snipping the tube up from the bottom and curlingit in on itself then taping it into the hole with a block and hammer. secured it further with a s/s self tapper and strengthened the inside of the light with my favorite product - you guessed it J.B. Weld
. so far it held out all summer . The U.S. flag I had got all tattered blowing in the wind -but the pole and kight are holding up. Is your light like the one on the front of mine ? I think they were pretty standarad stuff on "60's MFG
