I have an 84 evinrude 40 hp 2 cylinder with non thru the hub exaust, pin drive...not spline
michigan # 012024 is currently on this motor and only gps's at 22.5 mph. This prop is in stock and I was told at the 800 # that this is a 12 pitch 3 blade prop. I am looking for more speed out of this little 15 ft Collins Craft and was told that a 13.5 pitch is no longer in stock...Matter of fact , the 12 is the only one in stock now...
What do i do now? Motor runs great and has plenty of torque...Does someone else have a 13 or 13.5 (new or used) or can the existing 12 pitch be modified?

While my info is a little sketchy I don't think there was a non through hub 84 40hp.Do you have a model number? What is the rpm at speed? A tinytach is reasonable and easy to install.
Without rpm at speed its impossible to evaluate your problem.
Depending on the design/weight of your boat the 40 should be running 30-35 .
Improving your setup will help your speed. But would have to be a really bad setup to net 8 mph or more.

Yep, there were. These were the commercial models and I know they were made up to 1985, possibly 1986. I remember seeing a couple used by commercial cod fisherman back in the day.

These days those props are rare in the 13p or 13.5p size. Your best bet would be to look for a used one or even to look for a blown motor of the same type. Either way I think you are going to have a hard time finding them.

EDIT: You could try your local Johnson/Evinrude dealer. They may be able to order in an OEM one for you.

They may be able to repitch your prop but before any changes you need the present max rpm and speed. Its pretty obvious it is under performing but without the specs there is no clue why? Also without a tach there is no way to know if the prop change results in the proper max rpm.
