Hello! I am looking to get a spare prop and found this on craigslist for 250.00. It's a 4 blade and looks to be in great shape.

Will it work on my mercruiser, alpha 1, gen 2. I am running mercruiser 5L 220HP V8, Bayliner Capri 2052 DX cuddy.

ANY advise is appreciated.

Dave, that is not near enough information for anyone to make a comment on if that will work fine with your boat and motor.

Ok. Let's give this a shot. I don't want to waste my money but this is a good deal and I need a spare.

1) Performance issue you are trying to correct.
Hole shot improvement

2) Current prop manufacturer, model, aluminum or stainless and as a minimum.
Rapture, 993005, Stainless

3) Current prop diameter and pitch (required).
14.25 x 21

4) Wide open throttle RPM and speed with an average load (very helpful)
not sure but sounds great and tops out at 48mph loaded

5) Engine/drive make, model, year, and HP
Mercruiser/Alpha 1, Gen 2, 2000, 220hp

6) Boat make model, year, length and weight
Bayliner Capri 2052DX Cuddy, 2000, 21', 2500

THANKS!!!

Without knowing how many RPM you are turning with that prop I don't know how well it is performing on your boat, and you don't either. The Apollo XHS is a massive prop with 4 very large blade surface areas, and the Rapture is only three blades with smaller blade surface areas and usually higher prop slip numbers.

I am sorry but with out knowing how many RPM and how much prop slip you have at this time I can't help you, although I wish I could. You do not want to Lug the motor by turning too Low RPM with too much prop for your boat. When I help people find better props for their boat I do it in a mathematical systematical way, and I cannot do this without the correct information.

You might try reading this for a better understanding of changing props for better performance, and for the major differences between aluminum props and stainless steel.

Sorry,
H

thanks H! I bought this bad boy. Doesn't even look like it's been used. Let's hope I don't 'lug' the engine. I will be able to tell pretty quick if I am.

Based on iboats telling me it's the correct size, I went for it. WORST CASE is that I can use it for wakeboarding and/or a spare only and put the Rapture back on. It worked fine but for the price of this Apollo, I had to jump on it. We shall see. Keep you posted. and thanks again, H!

Re: michigan wheels apollo 993205 4 blade

Update and I am happy. Although I lost 5 to 6 mph top end, I gained fantastic handling. I mean crazy handling in hard turns. Not that I will always be turning hard... Where I had cavitation in the corners before, this 4 blade doesnt miss a beat.

I have a tiny tach on order to verify my gauge but this is what I got Sat.

WOT was 40 mph and 4900 rpm with this 4 blade. Hole shot is GREAT!! And between this prop and the tabs, plane time is 2 seconds with 2/3rd throttle...love it!

My 3 blade ss will be a nice spare in the nose of the boat!

Thanks!

I just picked up the same prop for my 3.0 Alpha one on CL after my prop took a hit. Out of curiosity did you have to buy a hub kit for it? Looking forward to trying it out as my wakeboard prop.
