Hi, I recently acquired a Steury. I have researched lots, but found little. I do not know the model year, but i know it is equipped with OMC accessories and has a GM Inline 4, possibly a (153ci?) and has two carter rbs carbuerators. There is a production tag on it that says Steury V 416 IO, but I could not locat a HIN anywhere. The information in this website leads me to believe it is a mid 60's early 70's steury, but since it is hard to find pictures of these boats, I am not sure.

Does anyone know what year this Steury might be?

These are the numbers found on the side of the GM block.

The block casting 3915983 was used in the 2.5L engine, but I'm not sure what years this casting # was used. The F 20 8 cast in the side of the block is the casting date code. This probably indicates that the block was cast on June 20 but I'm not sure if the 8 means 1968 or 1978. I don't think it could be 1988. Sorry that's all I could find.

That is the Chevy II 153 cid engine that had about 90 horsepower in the early to mid 60's. In the 70's Pontiac used a similar version with a crossflow head that was referred to as the Iron Duke.

Thanks coheej and rallyart for the info. I'm still kind of stuck on the boat model year since there aren't many pics out there to refer to.

mfgniagara, this is a help, thanks. The hull isn't smooth, so I gotta think the model year is proir to a '70, but in the brochure it doesn't specify a year, and from the looks of mine vs. the brochure, mine doesn't have the bubble shaped window and also the rails are different. I guess I'll have to try finding a Steury manuel or display book at the library.

Welcome to iboats

You will not locate a Hull Identification Number since it was built BEFORE they were required. ;) Maybe a serial number.

The brochure is for a 1965.
Yours is newer going by the type of windshield.
If your lower hull is not lapstrake, and you have the newer windshield style, I'd have to guess that your somewhere in between 1966 and 1969 year wise. Just from experience and looking at many other brands, most manufacturers seemed to switch away from those bubble or curved Plexiglass windshields in the latter 1960's.

Here's a strong hint. If your drive shifts electrically it's more likely to be the 1968 production date.
from your cited tech article... "Because the newer model ?stringers? utilized the traditional mechanical shifting (similar to the Mercruisers and Volvos) the OMC stringer sterndrives can be divided into two distinct groups; the 1977 and earlier models are called the electric shift OMC stringers and the 1978 to 1985 models are called the mechanical shift OMC stringers."
My brother was just gifted an 86 OMC this past August, I guess he got a Cobra.
