Would there be any point in picking up a 66 or 67 maracaibo for free? Last used in 2002. Has a 28hp Johnson that "clunks" while in gear. Original seats missing in favor of cruddy molded plastic jobs. Way cool old boat.

Free! Definitely, awesome boats and well worth restoring. I would LOVE to find one. You'll find lots of folks around here that can give plenty of advice on the restore. Would love to see some pics when you get it. If it's near Indiana and you don't want it, let me know :)

Re: mid 60s Maracaibo

Thanks IUalum. We'll undoubtedly have some pics rolling soon. Dragged it home last nite. All the parts and pieces except for the seats are there and that is mainly why I took a stab at it. Even the pennant standard atop the bow light is present. Got it from an old dryland grain farmer here in Montana. All grain farmers are notorious for having weathered but unused "treasure" languishing in the quonset huts or the farm yard. Unfortunately, I am just starting the restore and am full of vigor for the job so you'll have to wait for now. We'll see if my zeal persists as I get further in to the job. It came with three different Johnsons, 40, 35 and 28. Right you are about the expertise present. Plenty of smart fellers on this forum.
