mid 80's 140hp wont run at speed????

I have a mid 1980's johnson 140hp motor that runs fine and shifts fine on the trailer. The compression is all around 125psi. Checked that first thing. It will run out about 100yds from the dock and it quits. It will restart but barely, and it will not take any power after that. I ended up putting the choke on via the red lever, and was able to limp it back to the dock. I'm thinking dirty or blocked carb. Looking for suggestions???

Using the red lever inject fuel into the engine.----------This fuel bypasses the carburetors.------That would suggest that the carburetors need to be taken apart for inspection / cleaning.
