Mid 80's Grew/Chriscraft color restoration question

I have what I think is an 21' 87 Chriscraft built by grew I believe. It has Mercruiser 4.3 LX with Alpha 1 drive.

Anyway, it has a white hull and a red top stripe....looks like this one sort of but my issue is that the red is really really chalky and pink. I think it is beyond wet sanding. Have done that in past years but its really gone now. All the pin striping is shot as well.

I don't want to invest much in the boat but it would really improve its looks if it were red again. This fall I was thinking I would take all the hardware off, all the pinstripes etc and perhaps just paint the red areas and put on new striping.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Well if your not wanting to invest alot in it then that sounds like the way to go if color sanding and buffing wont bring it back ( I would still try first ) . I am doing part of my boat with Rustoleum sunrise red which is about $9.00 a quart ( I.m doing the whole boat with rustoleum ) but for the sake of your issu with the red everybody seems to love the color so far . Feel free to click the link at the bottom of my post and look t the last few pages of my thread to see the color .

That red does look good. It looks similar to the way the boat used to be. I wonder if that type of paint works well over glass?

Well I know JC used it on his glass boat resto . I woudlnt think there would be any problems just prep it by wipeing it down with a good wax and grease remover and then sanding it down in the areas you want to paint and then simply roll and tip it on . The red areas dont look like they are below the water line and JC painted his whole bot with it . I will try to find you a link to JC's resto .
