wondering if there are any i/o pros who live near Tullahoma,Tn ?
I need to remove my transom assembly and engine so I can repair my transom. I have the outdrive and pivot housing off. Seems that by the time I buy and find all of the specialized tools etc, I may be better off having someone who knows what they are doing it. Basically wanting someone to pull the engine and transom assembly, I will fix the transom myself, and then re-install and adjust.
Thanks
Oh, boat is a 1988 Dynasty Fish & ski, OMC 4.3L

Engine should come out easy. If you have ever done a car a boat will be a breeze. Transom assy on a cobra just unbolts. ^ 5.8 bolts if I remember right. What special tools do you need?

Re: middle tennessee mechanics

I am stuck on the steering arm. Can't find any for sale anywhere. I tried making one out of some heavy flat washers and a couple of pins, but it does not budge (the boat did turn correctly when I took her out, so not frozen). I am afraid I am going to strip the threads. I used the original bolt per the factory service manual and now the bolt is eating the threads at the bottom of the hole. Before I tried this, I did soak the arm in wd40 overnight. I just hate to screw this up. Been wanting a boat for a long time. I am just not sure what I am stripping out.
Would it be possible to take the arm off from the engine side to remove the gimbal assembly ?
