I purchased this fluid thanks to some help from a iboat forum member for my hydraulic steering unit.
1)Im wondering will this fluid also be compatible for the bennett trim tabs hydraulic unit?
2)Also Can I use this on my Honda power trim unit?
Trying to save space so if the MIL-PRF-5606H HYDRAULIC FLUID is compatible on all three that would be awesome for a rainy day.

Ayuh,... No idea,... That appears to be some Military Spec numbers...

the Bennett tabs run ATF, I would specifically contact them. may have to ask the same question of Honda.

why are you running expensive military fluid?

I called teleflex previously and they told me that the aviation 5606 hydraulic fluid is equivilent to their fluid. Its alot cheaper then their fluid too. So I guess I should say im wondering if the aviation 5606 hydraulic fluid is equivilent the ATF fluid these componets call for.

*edit* so Honda power trim calls for the Honda power trim fluid which is also ATF.

you would have to call the manufacturer on the 5606. however my guess is that there are higher requirements for certain applications of 5606 than standard ATF.

I used to work for Teleflex's arch rival and we sold that 5606 by the truckload. It is compatable, in fact it is better than ATF. And tough on your hands if you are in it all day, every day. BTW, consider the conditions that airplanes fly in. On minute they are sitting on the tarmac at 120 degrees, and ten minutes later they are six miles up in sub-zero temperatures. The oil has to perform equally well in both places. A ten million $ plane and hundreds of lives are at stake. At least your boat can be towed.

5606 can be bought for around $7.00 a qt. vs around $25.00 a qt for Seastar Fluid. For 5606 uses other than SeaStar, would probably depend on the type of o-rings used in those systems. I would suspect they all use the same o-ring material (Nitrile)? But I don't know for sure . I wouldn't think they're some exotic o-ring material that would be incompatible with 5606. Maybe the manufacturer of the systems can give more information.

The problem you may run into is the viscosity. 5605 was designed for hydraulic dampening service (. I.e. shock absorber) in cold environments so it has a much lower viscosity than ATF fluids in a boating environment. At 40 degrees C, 5605 has a viscosity of 6.88. ATF has a viscosity of 34 at 40 degrees C

This is comparable to using 15W engine in a rearend.
