mine has this knock sound at idle

Motor runs pretty good fast however at idle its got this knocking sound. Could a bearing be bad or a ring need replacement. Should i take the head off and look in also the exhaust plate thingy on the side. What will i see in there. If there is a problem could i take the motor out no sure how and have it rebuilt and put wider rings in.

can you make the noise go away by advanceing the shifter from neutral to forward or neutral to reverse? Is it possible the noise is coming from the lower unit instead of the power head? If so you may just need to adjust the shift linkage.

While the engine is running, carefully placing a long screwdriver's handle in your ear and the other end at various points on the motor may pinpoint the source of the noise.
