I have a 10-yr. old minkota trolling motor. It has been used about 10 times. It has not been used in 5 yrs. When I hook it up to a battery I get nothing. No click, no hum, nothing. I took the cap off the top and all looked O.K. Some evidence of dirt daubers but no frayed wires, rusty contacts, etc. I tried to pull the lower unit apart and took off the prop, took out the long bolts and started pulling it apart and some (1/4 cup) of water ran out. Is this my problem? How do I get at the motor to see if it is all corroded? Thanks for your help. SPUD

Re: MINKOTA TROUBLESHOOTING

spud2 have you ever rebuilt a starter? if you have, and you have time to do some cleanup, you might want to give it a try. i repaired 2 this way, with same initial problem. if you do want to try it, ask for more details.

if you just want to buy a known good unit, then you might see if a marine shop would want it for parts, rather than throwing it away. just a thought :)
