I have a 24 Minn Kota trolling motor. I have 2 12 volt deep cycles in series that I use for the trolling motor and a 12 volt deep cycle that I use for starting. I have a Perko 1/2/all/off switch. I want to hook one position of the swicth so to be able to use one of the trolling batteries as a backup. Would I just runs the leads from the numer 2 position to one of the trolling batteries +-, and if so, if I switch to ALL would I have a problem, or is there a simple way to connect all three batteries when not using the trolling motor that they would be charging when the motor's runnning?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: Minn Kota 24 volt

You can not use the 24 volt circuit as a back up to start the motor. You could take one battery out of that system and use it in place of your cranking battery in an emergency.

Re: Minn Kota 24 volt

Hi Uncagriz,

Welcome to the board (1st post?). You Probably could go to "both" but would have to break the 24 volt setup down. (disconnect one of the batteries)
That's what wingnuts are for. I'm shopping for a saltwater Minn Kota myself. Debating on the 65 foot control, or the 74 bow tiller. Really want to give the 101 a shot though. 36 volt system. Thinking of making 2 harness's, outer batteries never get disconnected but if I switched the middle connector on each harness, I'd be going from 36 volt series to 12 volt parallel system so I could charge all 3. Have 20 foot al. Lund. Any input on your 24 volt system? Do you wish you had the 36 on your boat? Looking for trolling motor opinions. Thanks and good luck! :D
