Minn Kota 24V ?

I have acquired a boat that has a Minn Kota 48lb thrust 24 V trolling motor. Using 2 12 V batteries. Can anyone tell me the advantages of 24 V? <br />Also, it has a switch with three postions, = Run, Off, Charge. What is the Charge position for and how do I use it?<br /><br />Thanks.<br />Cal

Lower amperage will be drawn from higher voltage (24) resulting in longer battery life on a charge.<br /><br />Have no experience with switches.....
