Re: minn kota 55 # 12 volt power drive

I had a early version 36# powerdrive that I found awkward to stow and control. I didn't like the response time for turning either. Used it 3-4 trips and sold it to buy a more traditional bow mount with hand control. I like "simple" but to each their own.

yes thats what i thought it seems like a pain to lift up and pull that shaft in while your in the boat and then to get it to lock damn. maybe its just me, i will probably sell it or trade it for a nice standard one with foot control...

I've got two of them and it probably takes two or three seconds to stow, you push the handle down and pull up and back on the shaft.

I've owned three of them and if one reads the manual, stow and deploy is a simple task. No manual? Try the Minnkota web site.

Re: minn kota 55 # 12 volt power drive

Jim, I bought a boat this year and had a slightly used Minn Kota 70#, 24V Power Drive trolling motor installed on it with the quick release bracket. As far as deploying and stowing the unit goes I feel it is pretty straightforward and not really a pain at all. I must say though, that this is my first boat and trolling motor and I have nothing to compare it with.
I have had a couple of minor issues with it that I resolved with the help of this forum. First it wants to stick in the stowed position making it extremely difficult to deploy, one thread recommended using some light grease on the hooks where the motor rests, and this resolves that issue. Also, we were having issues with the foot control not working well. I have read that it could have been the connector or possibly dirty contacts. I took the foot pedal out of the boat to do some continuity checks and everything seemed to work. Hooked it back up in the driveway and it worked fine and performed well on our last fishing trip. We now store that with the other electronics when the boat is not in use and hopefully that will not give us any further problems.
Overall we are pleased with the performance of this motor and the batteries seem to last forever.

I have a VERY old 765 MX mount that I took the motor drive collar off and just put an extended hand control: works just fine.
I also just upgraded to a 36 lb composite shaft and that works and I can now get a better prop that is weedless alsobest part it was FREE:cool:
