I have a Minn Kota 55 (80's vintage) transom mount trolling motor. When I swiched it into 'Hi' this weekend it began to squeel and eventually started to smoke. When I returned home i removed the cover and found that the insulation on a few of the wires had begun to burn, hence the small amount of smoke. As for the squeeling I can only attribute it to not being used for the last 20 years. I am guesing that the old wires are causing too much resistance to the current and over heating. Has anyone tried to rewire the inside wires on an old trolling motor? Can the berrings in the sealed motor section be greased and reassembled to be water tight? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
conrad
