seems if I got a little heavy handed and over tightened the clamp that locks shaft in place for trolling, it wont tighten much now. Noticed a small plastic tab under the collar, but not sure how it works. I dont really want to have to remove the motor head to replace the whole clamp assembly if I can help it. It might be okay, as I can make it stick a little in position, but not sure it would hold under power. Thanx

The shaft tension adjustment?

I think there's a nut (square ?) in the motor mount that the thumb screw threads into, sounds like you stripped it. Back out the thumb screw and see what it looks like. Though, I bet you are going to need to pull the head so the motor mount can be removed for replacing that nut.

You are probably right in that I may need to pull the head. From what I can tell, there is no nut, but a snap in tension bar. I had tightened the tension screw too tight and it bore into the snap in part so it does not press firm against the bushing. Maybe I can simply flip it around 180 deg until I can get a new part. Looks like the head is held onto the shaft by a single bolt going through it. The head should just lift off then and hopefully I can slide the collar and hinge up to get at the tension bar. They do sell parts, but do not know how far down the parts list they go i.e. without having to buy an entire assembly. I also see an 800 number for service I can call if necessary. Thanks.

Re: MINN KOTA enduro 40

side note:.....sea trial today. The 40 lb thrust motor worked fine and the weight of the motor up against the depth collar held it pretty much in place but only at lower speed settings. At the higher settings, I had to keep my hand on the tiller. I did not get a chance to talk to the tech rep at Minn Kota today about ordering a new tension bar (or whatever else they may suggest). The motor also hangs a little heavy which I have addressed in another thread, but I think I have come up with a good solution to that little problem.

You're correct about how the head mounts to the shaft. It's designed that way so it can be easily converted for use on the bow or transom. Just be ready to catch the nut when you back out the bolt. Don't ask me why I'm telling you that.:facepalm::redface: You should have no trouble finding the part you need and I doubt if it will be very expensive. Minn Kota will fix you up. Good luck.

ayup....called Minn Kota....they will sell the hinge for $3.70 (shipping cost around $10 somehting however). Or He said I should be able to simply drill it out, tap a larger hole and use next bolt size up. I know where I can get various size thumb screws. I will have to disconnect the halves of the head however, to make sure there is enough slack in the wiring (or remove same), to get the head completely off. But it is a simple job. THANKS. oh BTW, the motor mount mod I made from PVC fittings works like a charm.

Re: MINN KOTA enduro 40

fwiw, I finally got around to fixing the tension on the hinge. I used a 5/16th drill bit and tap and then 1 3/4 inch, 5/16th wing screw. I even did it without removing the mount from shaft by going slowly (even with power drill which you are not supposed to do). My drill is variable speed which enables me to use slowest rev.
