I am interested in purchasing a electric trolling motor and I found out that Minn-kota makes a model that mounts to the cavitation plate.
Any and all comments as to what to expect would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Minn-Kota engine mount

Trolling motors are made in various styles such as bow mount, stern mount and engine mount. Each has a specific purpose. What's yours? If your boat has a casting platform up front, the last thing you need is an engine mounted troller. See where I'm going with this? Depending on what boat you have and how you expect to use this motor, it may or may not be a good solution.

It is intended to go on a 16' deep v that is only for fishing.

I have a 16 ft bayliner with no known way to mount a bow mount trolling motor. would the engine mount work well for slowly fishing the shore, and are they actually out of the water at plane. Thanks

any bow mount will work better than any mount on the transom.

Since you are "strictly fishing" -- an engine mounted motor means you are bound to fish from the helm since the boat must be steered. Not my idea of a good fishing solution. On that size boat a bow mount is in order. These are ideal, especially in windy conditions. I reserve a motor-mounted troller for only last resort solutions.
