I am quite aware that Minn Kota stopped production on the Genesis a couple of years ago- but I must say, I was always in love with that TM and at the time couldn't afford the hefty price. This past week, I received a lead on a dealer that has some left over Genesis TM's for about $700.00 US. This is about the same as I was going to pay for a Minn Kota Powerdrive from Cabelas. I see from old posts that parts might be iffy if it breaks.....Anyone run into issues with parts as of yet? Additionally, if it did die, do they still offer the trade in offer from Minn Kota? And lastly, can a co-pilot be fitted to a Genesis?

Any help that I can get or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Minn Kota Genesis

I had and used a Genesis for about a year with no problems (sold the boat). I don't think a Co-Pilot works with the Genesis.

Though the Genesis was no problem, it is heavy and it changed the balance of the boat requiring a prop change.

If I were starting over, I would get an AP with Co-Pilot and deploy and store manually.

JB...Are you aware of any problems with the Minn-Kota AP with co-pilot trolling motors.

I wonder about that, Susan.

I have noticed that neither BPS nor Cabelas are offering the Co-Pilot in their 2005 catalogs.

I had an AP before I got the Genesis. Used it for several years with zero trouble.

I have no information about troubles with the Co-Pilot accessory, but if it is as great as the idea seems to be I wonder why those 2 big retailers are not listing it.

Thank you JB- the lack of ability to place co-pilot on a Genesis is a deal breaker.....and the weight issue would also be an issue for me. I will be purchasing a Powerdrive instead, thanks!!!

Re: Minn Kota Genesis

I just got my BPS Marine catalog in the mail yesterday and the Copilot is listed in it as an add on to any Powerdrive manufactured after 1991.

I had the Genesis and loved it for the auto stow/deploy feature but didn't like it for the weight issue, the big profile(blocks more of your view from the helm), and the fact that parts may be an issue in the future. I oppted for the trade in offer from MK last year for a new Powerdrive and Copilot.

StillFishin'
