Minn Kota MKC-10 won't shut off

For about the past year, my MKC-10 won't display the "charge complete" light when charging my trolling motor battery, just keeps charging until I turn it off manually. Yesterday, I bought a new battery, took it on the lake for a few hours, then put the charger on it. Went out this morning, "charge complete" light was not on so I shut if off. Couple of hours later the battery tested 12.98-13.02 volts.

When I hook this charger up to my starting battery, it runs for 50 or 60 seconds and the "charge complete" light comes on. That battery checks around 12.6 volts.

For the first year I had the charger, it behaved as advertised. I had theorized that wear and tear on the old battery in some way prevented the charger from detecting a full charge, but since it behaved the same way with a new battery, I'm stumped.

Anybody else got any theories?

Re: Minn Kota MKC-10 won't shut off

Me again.

I sent a message on the Minn Kota web site and got the following response:

I would recommend taking a reading with your volt meter of the battery
charger hooked up to a battery and charging. The shutdown level is 14.8
volts. If the charger on a battery does not reach that charging rate,
it will not shut down. That can indicate a battery that is not reaching
a full state of charge.

I haven't had time to try this yet, but 14.8 sounds high to me. I have in the past checked voltage while the charger was on and it seems to me that 13.8 was about the highest I saw. Same when I check the X-65 on the starter battery while the motor is running.

Any ideas?
