Minn kota MKr 18 plug

I got this plug this weekend,i could not get the screw tightened enough so the wire would not come out,im using 8 gauge wire,taking it back Monday.Any idea if i was doing something wrong

Are you using the wire connections properly? No reason that plug should not work.
