Bought a boat with the above motor on it. My question is: Can I test it out of water to see if it runs? I've seen some articles that say certain trolling motors need to be in water to run. Unfortunately, I can't test this one in a barrel, my trailer is in the way when I drop the motor. Anyway, it looks to be in good shape. I did pull the prop checking for fishing line and there was none. I also opened the lower and pulled out a ton of apparent corrosion/salt from saltwater use. Cleaned it all up, resealed the housing, closed it up and re-mounted the prop. Now I want to find out if it runs, but afraid to try it out of water. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks!!!

I don't like the sound of corrosion inside the motor, after you test it and it turns order a new shaft seal!! does the shaft turn smoothly?
Most of the trouble I have seen was with the foot pedal speed and direction systems.
