my friend recently bought a new ranger 520vx. it ha a minn kota maxxum 74lb. thrust 24 volt motor on it. during a tournament we hit a wave pretty hard and it damaged the motor. he bought another motor and i bought the broke one. the dealer repaired the motor for nothing. i wired my batteries in series and it runs backwards. i tried reversing the wires in the plug but it did nothing. can anyone help me?

If you can draw the wiring, switch and cables, we can rule!

;)

I agree with Norman. To reverse a DC motor one must reverse the relationship between field and armature, simply reversing the applied polarity wont do it. There will be a small circuit board, probably in the head, with speed control circuits on it. on this board there are connections for the field and armature wires coming up the shaft from the motor. Two of these wires have been switched.

Red sky at night. .. .
JB :)

Ditto gents:
but one must know if it is a permanent magnet field or electromagnet field...
:)

for what its worth, i looked at the schematic on my minkota only 2 wires going to the motor assy red and black looks like it would be easy to get the wires crossed at the board. just going by the size of the moror case they would allmost have to be a permamag motor. as i said for what its worth.

Right on norman158 !!

If its only got 2 wires to motor, you're right on target!!! switch them at the board. The only thing that puzzles me is that he says switching the outside leads didn't effect it. Hmmmmm, maybe he meant it didn't work at all when switched.....
