I have a rt55 saltwater trolling motor. When I put it on the 5th speed it will go for a second and turn off, why? This is the second motor, I replaced the first for this reason. i have a 21' center con with a 150hp.

seadiva,

What size of circuit breaker do you have for power supply of your MinnKo - it may be too low !

Smoky

Re: minn kota trolling motor

Had the exact same problem when I ran mine on the highest speed for more than a few seconds. I would have to reset the circuit breaker. I ended up moving the circuit breaker because I installed a Guest charger. When I was moving the breaker, I noticed one of the positive leads going into it was very loose. Tightened it up and have not had a problem with it since. Is this a 12volt or 24 volt system? I would bet it is a bad connection somewhere.

Most of the time it is at your battery positive lead, but also check what - 495v - suggests to you about loose connection this also will affect your motor.

Smoky

Seadiva-is this one of the newer white Riptides ? when the white models first came out, there was a recall similar to your problem....you might get your serial number and call minnkota to see if your motor was in the recall

I spoke to minn kota, and the guy there said to check the wiring from the plug to the battery, it may not be heavy enough. thank you all.
