I have a minn kota terova with us2. I am new to this unit and need help with getting power for my lowrance elite 5 so I can connect to the trolling motor and read the sonar from the front of the boat. I have the adaptor that runs from the trolling motor to the fish finder. From my research on the site it appears I need to run the power from my cranking battery to the adaptor wire to avoid interference. What gauge wire should I use? Also, is it ok to run the wire straight to the fish finder or should I use a fuse somewhere in between. If I am totally wrong! Please give me advice. Thanks

You defiantly need to put an inline fuse in it (Lowrance should be calling for one in the manual). What kind of boat do you have? Most have a place at the bow that ties into the 12v elect. system (that way you don't have to run wire) but if you do i would say to use 12 gauge would be fine.

I have a 2004 Hurricane deck boat (198 fun deck). There are lights on the front of the boat near the trolling motor. I guess I could hook into them for power but I assume the lights would have to be on to get power to the lowrance unit?

Re: Minn Kota universal sonar connection

I have a PC V2 with universal sonar and I have my Lowrance X65 powered from the same battery as the trolling motor. I've seen no issues that I can identify as interference. Only thing is occasionally on startup the sonar will take a long time to find the bottom, e.g. showing 500 ft when the actual depth is maybe 6 or 8. That will happen when the trooln motor is not running so I don't think it's interference. Could be wrong. I usually clears up in a few minutes, or I turn off the sonar and turn it back on once or twice an it clears up. I've also had it clear up while I was running the PD so I don't really know what the reason is.

Granted the X65 is pretty old and newer ones may be more sensitive.
