If Minnetonka was the way it was many years ago, then I would consider it. Now with the amount of traffic out there combined with the level of intoxicated boaters......not my cup of tea.
Then you wouldn't sse my boat on Minnetonka for any reason now with the amount of aquatic infestation in the lake, it's pretty sad to think about it as it was a beautiful lake.
I've over-nighted in a small cabin cruiser on the lake, however, it was still early in the season. Just dropped anchor, no problem. However, I think slh7d is right, you should be able to do it right on big island too.
Yes, you can overnight on Lake Minnetonka. If you are trailering in make sure that you have a place to park your rig. Some of the public landings don't allow overnight parking. Cruisers Cove at Big Island (big party spot) and Boy Scout Island (more mellow and family friendly) are two popular places. You can camp on half of Big Island where the verterans camp used to be as well as all of Boy Scout Island. There are a lot of small coves on the upper and lower lake that you can tuck into for the night. The upper lake is not as busy as the lower (between Excelsior and Wayzata) just make sure that you aren't in the areas that receive direct boat traffic. Most of the lake is still under a no wake zone so kep that in mind.
Thanks for all your input. We slip in Spring Park next to water patrol and would probably find some place on our side of the lake so we're close to "home".
