I have a bow mounted MinnKota PowerDrive trolling motor and I don't like the foot pedal that presumably came with the unit (I bought the boat used and this motor came with it...).

Anyone know if there are newer models that work better and retro-fit these units? The pedal isn'r horrible - it just has no feel to it and I don't like the setup.

Thanks!

What model, Ken? They have been making PD motors for about 20 years.

Check with Minn Kota whether a CoPilot will work. If it was made after about 1991 that would be one solution.

Re: MinnKota Foot Controllers...

I have a MK PD that is just two years old and Ken has a point. I run mine at very slow constant on speeds so the lack of "feel" doesn't bother me much, but it is an issue. I've looked at the pedal and I suspect replacing the springs with some that are slightly weaker would solve the problem. Experimentation is essential since these are probably not garden variety springs. Lowes has a good selection so one would have to remove the springs and take them with you to check for length and tension. You might want to consider the corded or wireless co-pilot if this issue really bugs you.
