Mirrocraft Question

Hi all,

Looking to buy a 14ft Mirrocraft on Craigslist (see link below). Called the seller and he stated the capacity plate rated the max HP for an 8 HP.

I was looking to put a 1979 9.9 Evinrude on the back. Was wondering what your thoughts were on this as I do not know much about Mirrocraft. Is the recommendation of a 8HP based on how much speed the boat can handle or how much weight the transom can?

Thanks guys.

Re: Mirrocraft Question

What I read in the pic says 10 HP. A 9.9 is fine. 8 may be HIS recommendation.

Sounds like the seller needs glasses! Ten it is. And the name Mirrocraft is a lot bigger, and he even got that wrong.

Re: Mirrocraft Question

I'm seeing 2 brands here: Microcraft and Mirrorcraft. The 14' Mirrorcraft I had back in the '60's was nothing like the picture..It had high sides a nice semi-V and I easily ran a 30 hp Merc on it with remotes. Very good boat for a 14' and performed well with 30 hp and took reasonable waves easily.

That's a real light shallow hull. We have a similar one by Alumacraft. It will be fine with the 9.9 but I wouldn't go bigger. You'll definitely want some weight in the front if you go out in it solo.

Re: Mirrocraft Question

That trailer is too short for the boat (unless the winch post could be moved forward). That is a MirroCraft and they are good boats. That design is very typical of boats of that era. I've owned MirroCraft in the past and they presented no issues. But then this is a pretty basic boat so what could go wrong. I once owned an Alumacraft 14 footer with a '56 10 HP johnson motor and that little rig was scary but quick at WOT with just one person in the boat.

Re: Mirrocraft Question

I assumed it was capable of holding at least a 10HP (the picture of the plate he took was a bit blurry). Glad to here it'll work out - I had a hydrofoil on the Evinrude with the 12ft but was going to take it off if I got a 14ft. However, after reading these posts it seems like I'll still need to keep it on if I plan on being myself...Thought the weight would've been substantially different!

Thanks for the input.

Nice looking boat but if you can hold out for a deep and wide model. You'll be glad you did for the extra comfort and stability...
