1994 Turbo Jet (Evinrude 115 V4 crossflow) New engine, and rebuilt carbs. Top cylinders missing bad, and ALL plugs VERY wet and oily. Running on the hose I get a sizeable puddle of oil under the boat after a few minutes.

Could this be an over rich condition? I've gone through the carbs twice, and beleive them to be good. This has the electric primmer solenoid that does click with key in. Could it be causing the condition?

Thanks

Primer solenoid could be leaking fuel mix past causing a flooding condition.Insure that the primer solenoids red manual prime lever is in the full off position. In line with the body of the solenoid. Is the VRO still in service on this engine?

VRO is in service only for fuel supply. Running mixed gas. The solenoid on these inboards is different in that there is no red lever. I's on or off with the push in of the key.

Drackley....the solenoid could still leak thru...pull one of the hoses from the solenoid to the carb off and put in a jar. Without pushing in to choke, just crank the engine. If you get gas from the solenoid hose carb end, then the solenoid is leaking thru.

Also, insure that when you pump up the primer bulb that it gets completely firm indicating that the carb float needle valve or vlaves are not leaking by.This may get more input on the I.O forum.

Primmer bulb does get hard. The enjine is basicly the 115 outboard moved inboard with mods to comply with C.G. regs. I was going to pinch off the primmer line and run it to see what happens, but I like the jar idea. Can we agree that given the fact that the floats are locking closed that this is about the only other place the extra material could come from?

Assuming all of the jets in the carbs are stock and floats are set properly I would say so, unless we're chasing a weak spark problem. That would be the next thing that I would eliminate is a spark test of all cylinders.

Re: Miss and VERY wet plugs.

Spark test just completed, and all four are firing a 1/2 inch spark. However. the top two particularly number one is dropping out for a good second at cranking speed. The power pack is a new CDI CD4. The timer base has also been replaced, and checks out good. The stator is putting out 430 volts, and ohms is a little low at 405. No shorts to ground. The only thing I can think would cause this would be the two coils, or the stator. This engine did do a meltdown on number one, and the plug was shorted with aluminum deposites. Could that have taken out the stator? Opinions?

It's gonna run rich at idle on the hose and leak black stuff from the exhaust, near the prop.

check your coils for cracks. Wait until dark and run engine with hood off. You might also be able to hear the spark jump if you listen when it misses.
