I wend to repack my bearings and was shocked/surprised to find out that one of my drum brakes is MISSING!!

I want to replace on the cheap, but probably not the cheapest. Who knows what I need to get? It's a LoadRite model 23T5300with hydraulic surge brakes.

WOW... Okay, unless you can find and buy the exact same parts to match the other side, you will have to purchase a complete new brake system for both sides. Because you absolutely have to have a matched set on both sides of the axle to work properly. If you can locate and buy the replacement part, I would still either remove and rebuild the wheel cylinders on both sides or replace them both. They look well used from the pictures. The internal parts are not that unusual or hard to find but they need to be of the same type on both sides. Since you are going to have to rebuild them anyways, I'd remove all the parts and clean, prime and paint the backing plates for starters. Then rework the individual parts with primer and paint too. Make sure to bleed the system after rebuilding it too...

Is the wheel cylinder the part that has the bolts on it? I imagined that I'd be replacing both sides. I just don't know what to buy.. Tats why I included a picture of the old one too. Can you tell what it is from that? How big of a deal is priming and painting? The trailer only gets wet 4 times a year max. Mtly in fresh water...

You could start with the trailer manufacture and see what brakes they installed and then contact that manufacture and buy the internal parts. Do you have the drums that go over these brakes. If so...good. If not...not good at all... Some auto part stores carry the internal parts for drum brake systems and you could take your remaining brake parts and wheel cylinders along with you and see what they can do for you. To actually list the names of all the parts would not mean much to you or most auto part stores. But show them the pictures and parts from the other side and they can help you with replacements...

Just purchase the whole thing.Backing plate and all. You can buy them as a complete unit. By the time you buy the parts and install it you will have spent more money..You just need to know the size of brakes and right or left hand

First test the surge actuator to see if it moves. You want to be able to operate the brakes you are replacing. Then just get the right and left assemblies and the wheel cylinders, and check the drums. If the swept inner drum surfaces are usable I'd be surprised, they are more likely to be all rusted up. The brake shoes keep down the rust as you drive.
I'm going to PM you a great link.
