Missing carb parts?

I have a 1976 Johnson 200hp engine. I recently did a rebuild on all 3 carbs. When I disassembled the carbs there were small spring wire clips that attached the floats to the needle valves. The rebuild kits did not include these clips, the kits were from Sierra. I have not had a chance to run the engine yet, are these clips needed? Or should I try my local marine store and see if these are available.

It's a good idea to have them installed. The wires tie the float arms to the needle valves and help to prevent the needles from sticking in their seats. Since you removed them, re-install them.

Yeah, it'll drive you nuts without those clips. The needle will stick up into the seat......intermittantly.

Thanks for the help, I thought not having the clips might be a problem. I contacted the supplier that I bought the rebuild kits from about buying the clips separately, he had a hearty laugh and said with a twinkle in his eye that only a true salesman could have ,"well I guess you will be wanting 3 more rebuild kits".
I guess I will be buying my parts from a Johnson dealer from now on.
