I just bought an older Hydra Sport bass boat (1976) that is in good but dull shape and is missing a rear hatch cover. The previous owner fasioned a substitute out of marine plywood but it looks kinda bad. Any suggestions on finding a replacement??

Oh, and I am going to attempt to revive the fininish of the gel-coat it is pretty faded. I read that Penetrol works??

I used starboard to replace the wood covers on my Mako. They look like new. When you say hatch cover are you reffering to a baitwell cover or a cabin hatch??????? Penetrol works great on really faded gelcoat. Charlie

Hey, thanks for the reply. yes, I am missing a rear hatch cover (it is for the gas tank access). I was actually thinking of putting in a permanent fuel tank and then could maybe do something that would screw down. The only use for this hatch cover is for gas tank access.

Try Cabelas or Basspro. They have hatch covers and other stuff to outfit your boat.

Starboard is a synthetic plastic which is used to replace wood. You can get it at any marine store. It can be cut, routered drilled and it stands up great to the sun and elements. It comes in different colors and is strong. Many rod holders and beverage holders are now made of it.Great stuff if you are looking to update an older boat. some whole boats have been outfitted with starboard instead of teak or mohagany... my last boat had a starboard as an option...

Yes, it is a fiberglass hatch. As I said earlier, I am thinking now to put in a permanent gas tank and then could use something like starboard to cover the hole.. It could be screwed down I guess if there was only a permanent tank below?? Seems like a solution that makes sense???
