Hello everyone. Has anyone tried using a water mist system to cool their transmission?

Why not use a transmission cooler? Or are you talking about mist over a transmission cooler.

What temp is your transmission getting up to? What cooler do you have? What vehicle?

Ford Escape 2008 V6, factory cooler, and I've seen temperatures up to 208 degrees on a long hill on a hot day. 4000 rpm 55-60 mph for about 8-10 miles. 4000' to 7000' elevation.

208 is not bad at all. I would put in a bigger factory cooler before I did anything with mist cooling. How are you measuring temps? OBD II?

I am actually finally going to put in an extra cooler on my truck after seeing temps on my last trip at almost 240!

100 deg over ambient is absolutely normal........ that said, if you hit 208 on anything short of a 110 deg day you need to be looking into a bigger or additional trans cooler.

Bruce, at 240, as you likely know, you have already shortened the life of your transmission.

I'm feeling a lot better about my Ford Ranger with 3.0 engine and auto transmission. I've never seen higher than 185 on the hottest day at highway speeds when pulling my boat. Then again, I do live on the coast so there's no hills.

Yep...at least the fluid. I flushed it all out 2 years ago. Going to do it again this year and add a cooler. It was especially hot this year on the way to Tahoe and I had a lot heavier load than normal.

Yes, I'm getting my readings from a Scan Gauge through OBD2. I had the trans flushed by ford dealer in May. I do this once a year. I'll see if I can find a aux. trans cooler for it.

Y are at the towing limit of your escape with your boat, trailer and gear. that alone will push your trans temp up while going up a grade. 208F is nothing I would be worried about.

208 IS nothing to worry about BUT since we don't know....
IF he got that on say a 75 deg day and might be towing on a 100 deg day in a traffic jam in the future he might see a lot higher temps.

You guys are exactly right. I called my transmission shop and he said 208 degrees is no problem. He said if I see 240 degrees to come see him. Thanks guys for your as usual spot on advice!

I never see anything much higher than 190 on the flats. My climb that I see my high temps on is a 99 mile climb from sea level to 7400 feet pulling close to 7K pounds.

On the flats I'm at about 175. It's just a long grade where it starts to rise.
