Right now I have an 86' 150 Yamaha that has some issues oil pump is working fine motor on the other hand has seen better days.

I'm about to run a 94' 175 Yamaha that is in great running condition only the owner was mixing the oil. Can I use the pump off of the 86' 150 on the 94' 175 ?

I believe the pumps are different. The '94 has a Mikuni and the 86 has a Keihn, I believe. Is that big a deal to premix?? I do it on my 225's

Re: Mix or stick with oil pump?

You need to look up the part # for both motors to see if they are the same.

Also need to see how the motor was converted to premix.
He may have just pulled the oil pump drive shaft out, or he may have not.
Without the oil from oil injection pump the drive shaft will cause crank shaft problems from lack of lubrication

99yam is correct. Yamaha makes a block off plate & gasket for the oil pump. Can forward the part numbers if you like.

Check to see that he converted it properly to premix like I said

How exactly do I tell if the guy did the conversion properly?

Re: Mix or stick with oil pump?

A little help please, my buddy just bought a good used boat with twin 2001 250 ox66. The previous owner had removed the oil tanks and was premixing. He wants to keep this set-up although all tell him to go back to the oil tanks. The problem is that the motors go into limp-mode and the buzzer comes on after a short time running. I'll look for the block-off plate and see if I can find out if the guy removed correctly but my question is: What do you have to do to the wire harness that was connected to the old oil tanks? Wouldn't you have to put in some type of bypass to fool the motors into thinking the oil tanks are present and full?? Do you guys think this is the problem? It's not a cooling issue as both water pumps were just replaced and has good tell-tail out the side. Thank you all for any help or sugggestions.

Re: Mix or stick with oil pump?

What display is flashing on the gauges when the alarm is off?? Low oil and high heat have their own displays and will be flashing when the alarm goes off. The only thing that should be done to fool the motor is raising the float on the engine mounted oil tank. On my motors I removed the engine oil tank and zip tied the float on the sending unit. I then just zip tied it to the wiring bundle on the side of the motor. The pump on the on-board tank thinks the remote oil tank is full and never turns on. I would stay away from altering or jumping any of the wiring. He should also be removing and cleaning his O2 sensor every year. He should also run good oil and ring-free.
