Mixed Feelings....Rant...

So bass fishing is really taking off on my lake. Where you would run into the occasional fellow fisherman, now it is a free-for-all of rudeness. It seems like there is a tournament going on every two minutes now, and these people are horribly rude. I'll be fishin' one of my frequent areas, and some numb-nuts will come swooping in, drop troller, and commense to workin' the spot, sometimes within a boat length of me. It is enfuriating, and I never am able to get a hull number or anything else, because these idiots think bass fishing means spending four minutes in an area and then blasting off leaving people like myself to bob in their wake of rudeness.

Sometimes I'll be fishing from my own dock, and these ill-informed people will troll right up and start working my dock, with me standing there. Technically, its public water, but these people need to learn a lot about fishing ettiquette. You just don't intrude on another fisherman's spot, I don't care what tournament you think you are in. I never hear about when these tournaments are happening, I have no idea who to contact, but I am going to start working harder to finding out, and having these people wo run these tournaments get their fisherman under control.

A homeowner actually shot at a bass fisherman with a pistol last week from his dock. A bit extreme, yes, but mayber he got sick of these rude knot-heads bouncing lures off of his boat.

In the end I am glad there is more bass in my area, but I am saddened that it has brought this ignorant breed of fishermen who think as long as they have a $40,000 boat and pay an entrance fee that they can behave any way they want....

Put up a Divers flag! Tell them you have a friend down there (while the truth is you friend is a real fish) and they should stay away.

See now you will consider my deck gun idea.... a simple recoilless rifle.

7/8 oz or larger Pixie.

They bounce right off the sides of boats operated by people like that.

For some reason they don't seem to come anywhere near boats operated by nice, considerate people.

Make three potato guns, zero them in at three different coordinates from the dock, when some knuckle head comes and intrudes start firing potatoes in the air like mortar rounds. Most likely will be able to charge admission when the word gets around to your neighbors. Maybe give the neighbors some copies of the potato gun plan, get the whole neighborhood involved. Hell you get that going I might come up that way next time in Boise, sounds like fun to me.d

Jasonj, been dealing with that in California for twenty years now. I do not even fish for bass or belong to any bass clubs any more. I fish for stripers but every now and then I do catch a big bass and God forbid if a bass fisherman see`s it he will cruise over and tell me to release it. You know what they deep fry good if you ever post a photo of a big bass you will be chewed up by those same bass fisherman that you are talking about you know they are better than the rest of us. Because they spend more money on there boats and gear than the rest of us.

I fish tourneys and that pisses me off too.theres no reason for anybody going near another fishermen unless there both working a bank toward one another and i'll usually stop fishing and go around back behind the guy while talking to them,for people on a dock i'll just move on by and talk to them.when a boat runs in on me i'll say you would'nt crowd a fellow would ya?and if i get a shrug or no attempt to back off then the the choice words come out cant you see im fishing here!and if they try to run between ne and the bank thats why i use a 1oz sinker on my rig last week i had 2 guys ducking for cover as they went by and my sinker went wizzing over there bow.i ve brought this up in our club meetings about being coutesy and treating other people with the respect everybody deserves.but in the end like it or not you gota say and sometimes take action to get any respect from dumbasses.

if ya wanna see extreme rudenesss try the Manns Harbor bridge ,croatan sound NC, during striper season.
we see 3 or 4 boat wrecks every weekend, its just gotten crazy.
to many boating idiots after their 2 fish a day limit.
most the wrecks are simple bumbs with only minor gelcoat damage.
some days there will be 200+ boats trolling east/west. 50 or so trying to cut north/south and another 50 that tie up to the bridge pilings,let out 50ft of rope so no one can troll the bridge.
thats when I get on the radio and call a fake buddy and tell him we just busted a 14 pounder at the Mashoes tower and they are thick as hogs rolling on the surface, to give a visual aid we spread crackers on the water to get the birds working hard.
that way I can get a spot on the manns harbor bridge .

You can understand the occasional newby whose Dad never took him fishing so he hasn't learned about encroaching on other fishermen, but a tournament fisherman knows & just don't care.

Bass fishermen...will actually approach you on the water to preach about releasing? Man that takes balls.

Anybody feels the quality of a fishery is threatened by legally harvest should lobby their wildlife authority for stricter limits.

We had some people do that to use down at lake fork one year.they didnt like the answer my dad gave them about driving 14 hrs and speanding alot of money in there little town and he was going to eat all the legal fish he wanteddnot that we did we only ate fish 3 nights
