Well is it a 2 stroke I have done both I sometimes would fuel up about 15 to 20 gallons then add oil and would pull forward stop hard shake it going down road all kinds of ways. Or you could fill up a five gallon gas tank add oil shake it then pour in boat.. but is it and outboard and is it 2 stroke??

Yes it’s a 2 stroke I filled cans today and mixed before filling the boat. But would be easier to fill at the gas station. I have a 20 minute drive to the launch. Figured it would mix on the drive

2 cycle oil mixes very easily with gasoline. The trick is to get the right mix.

So, if you know you need at least 12 gal of gasoline, dump in a qt of 2 cycle oil and then add 12 gal of gasoline. If you need 6 gal more, dump in a pint of oil and 6 gal gasoline. If unsure of how much fuel you need, add 8oz of oil and 3 gal gasoline.

Worse case scenario is that you put 8oz too much oil into 15gal of gasoline. Your engine will not mind that.

I used to put in 2 liters of oil.----Add 100 liters of gas.-----Then add 2 more liters of oil for the next 100 liters of gas.------Just because.-----And as stated modern 2 stroke oil mixes readily with gasoline.-----But some injector oil does not need to mix with gas , so it may be different.

every boat I have been on with an in-board tank also has an oil injection system

I have a 22 gallon tank under my floor of my boat with no oil injection system. When I go to the gas station, I always add enough oil for some of the gas I know I will be putting in. If I think I will be adding 10 gallons of gas, I put enough oil in the tank first for about 6-7 gallons, then pump the gas and add the remainder of the oil after the tank is filled up. (There is always more room in the tank after filling with gas for a few ounces of oil). Then on my way to the lake, the boat on the trailer is shaking, hitting bumps, shaking and moving around enough to mix the oil & gas together real well. I never had a problem & I've been doing it this way for many years on all of my boats that had a tank built in.
