I guess i should have asked this along time ago, but i assumed it was mixed. But while working on tring to get the motor to run, waiting on battery to recharge, I started cleaning out storage compartments and found a key float thing, that has Hustler marine co. which is my boat but one the top it had in permint marker "REG" was written, so now I am confussed. I have a inline 6 cyc. 90hp mariner, ser.# 5407819, i think it is a 1979 model. just trying to figure out if it is mixed or not, and did someone put wrong gas in it, could that be my problem and why it will hit but not stay running.

so other than draining fuel tank to make sure the old fuel is mixed, and put fresh in, running non mix will keep it from firing? i know it is not good for it,

It will run on str8 gas,w/out oil mix,but it will not run very long,I would take the time and drain all the old stuff, and mix new,as stated above,50:1,also check,I'm sure that late of an L6, should have an oil injection tank/reservoir.then the gas is put str8 into the tank, and the oil is injected to mix before entering the carbs. alot of guy's disconnect the oil injection system and go with the premix,it is safer,in the event of the injection system failing.

basically, the first thing you need to determine,is the year of your engine, and if it was equipped with a factory oil injection system. and then figure out if it is working,it must be working if you or previous owner have been running it,or it would be locked up from running on str8 gas.

Re: Mixed or non mixed gas

Rosser, My '77 Inline Merc did not have oil injection. If that motor does (I do not think so) have oil injection it is the first year for it. Do yourself a big favor and mix up some fresh gas/oil mix to do your testing. Mix 16 oz oil with 6 gal regular gasoline.

Save the old gas for after you get it running. You can usually see the color of the oil mixed into the gas, if it is present. Put some in a clean container and if it is green, blue or red it likely has some amount of oil mixed it.

Re: Mixed or non mixed gas

ok thanks for all the help, i don't think it does have a oil mixer tank on it, if it does I have been unable to find it, I know I need to change the gas mix but was just hoping it might just run like it was with older gas. thanks
