Re: mixing fuel/oil

Marco-

I have an 85 HP also. Mine is an 1987.

First, I would recommend Quicksilver Premium 2 cycle outboard oil. This is what the manuel recommends. Also, get one of the oil measuring bottles. Thats what you put the oil into for proper measuring.

Now if your tank is empty, pour about half the oil in first, then half the gas. Then continue with the rest of the oil and the rest of the gas.

If you fuel on the water and don't know how many gallons of gas you need to fill up, I usually measure on the oil mixer container for about 4 or so gallons, then add it to the tank and watch the gas pump. When you hit 4 gallons continue with more oil and more gas until you are filled up and the proper amount of oil is used for the proper amount of gas.

The ratio for your engine is a 50:1 mix. Its listed on the oil measuring container.

You can get these little containers at any marine store, like West Marine, for about $3.00.

Also since you new to the boating scene I also put a few drops of oil on my Starter Motor Armature shaft every few weeks.

Force starter motors are known to go bad a lot, so this keeps them well lubed.

If you have any more questions please post em.

Good luck.

Fishthebay has got you fixxed right up. I just want to add if you do not use his recomended oil at least use a high quality mixxing oil (no k-mart junk)... I run a small engine shop and it is amazing how fast you can tear up an 2 cycle running cheep oil. Spend a little now and save alot later.

Wal-Mart's SuperTech is a fine oil, and I'd suggest it to anyone. It may not have a manufacturer's name or a pretty label, but it's been compared to (and may be the same as) Merc's premium plus. I see a lot of high-dollar motors up here, and a lot of SuperTech jugs in the boats. :)

Actually I use suoertech (4 cycle) in my car... What I ment was not to use the (cheep) stuff...... (Kinda like using warren 2 cycle in a chain saw).

Marco, get the best stuff you can get and use the recommend oil for your engine.

Its $14.99 a gallon, which should last you for several months if you do weekend boating.

Don't comprimise on 2 cycle oil to save a buck. The bucks you may spend now will keep you force running.

Mine has been running for 4 years without any problems. Read the other posts - every other force is broken down.

TLC for this engine.

Re: mixing fuel/oil

I have a special oil measure cup 1:25 1:50 1:100 its not accurate at all must be made in china. I figure its over oiling 30% over the pint size contaners they say add 16oz for every 6 gallons of gas or 8oz for 3 gallons.
