can an 83 merc outdrive, alpha one series, work with an 898 series transom/gimbal? both are from 350 motors, the 898 setup being late 70's/early 80's.

Re: mixing old with new?

thanks, greatly appreciated. any idea roughly what year or design will not work with the 898 series? i ask cause the outdrive i got with the 898 setup is corroded, rusty inside. i have a line on the 83 alpha and an 88 or so alpha, both from v8. just curious how interchangable the merc o/d's are. thanks again.

I think if you stay with a gen 1 alpha you will be ok but others may chime in
