i have a 1973 85hp johnson model 85esl73m seeial j3860682.can someone tell me the gas mixture.i got the book but it is real greek to me.i will figure out this motor and get it to stay running sooner or later.i am going to try and figure the timing.and hope thats my problem to keep it running before i try to play with the carbs. i just want to say thanks for all your help so far. :p :) :D

Unless you are more adept than I am with carb adjustments (dual carb system, right?), you probably should rule out other probabilities before starting to tinker with settings. See if you can get it running with brand new gas and oil (50:1 oil mix -- don't go lighter on the TCW-3 oil, but too much more will just foul plugs). If you can keep it running reasonably well, let it run for a while and it may clean itself out.

50/1 is mediam...... NEVER EVER EVER EVER use less then 75/1 some motors say 100/1 but this is when the Motor is work A.O.K and never does it is safer to stay below 75/1 with 100/1 mixture!!!!!<br /><br />- :eek:
