MK Engine Mount

I'm thinking about buying a MK Engine Mount trolling motor for my 1978 Mercruiser 470 sterndrive. My only hesitation is that it is supposed to mount on the cavitation plate. From the photos I've seen of these trolling motors, it appears that the mounting legs might interfere with or be blocked by the trim cylinders. Has anyone out there had success (or failure!!) with mounting something like a MK 55EM on an older Mercruiser stern drive?
