Having a hard time finding a full synthetic 2 stroke oil. What I can find is this Mobil 1, two cycle motorcycle oil. Can this be used in an outboard? It says nothing about being NMMA certified or about the TC-W3 rating. It does say it meets API-TC, JASO-FC, and Proposed ISO-L-EGD standards. No idea what any of this means. What't the difference between 2 cycle motorcycle oil and 2 cycle outboard oil? Thanks for you help.

Re: Mobil 1 Full Synthetic

"Most" 2-stroke synthetics are far superior to std. TC-W3 oils, and usually don't use TC-W3 as a standard.
Amsoil HPI or AIO
Johnson/Evinrude XD-50, or XD-100
Penzoil marine synthetic, to name a few...
The only thing you want to watch for, is not using an oil designed for snowmobiles, personal watercraft, or ATV's as they use a different blend....make sure it's designed for outboards, whether oil injection, or premix.

Two stroke bikes are air cooled, DR. They run hot.

Most 2 stroke outboards are water cooled. They run much cooler.

If you must have full synthetic, try Amsoil.

Good luck. :)

Do "NOT" use the Mobil in your outboard! It will gum things up in a hurry! You will have unburned oil coming out everywhere. Do not get me wrong, Its a great oil for motorcycles. JBs right on the mark here!

You are right on as far as wanting the exra protection for your outboard, I guess you have to decide with you wallet! Walleyehed has them in order. Not that the others are going to hurt anything.

Re: Mobil 1 Full Synthetic

thanks for the info guys. Not too many options to pick from in Arizona. I guess I'll bite the bullet and order Amsoil. I was looking at their website and noticed a new outboard oil that they have. The way they word it, it makes it sound like you should use a 100:1 mixture of this stuff no matter what your engine calls for. Have any of you heard of this new oil? Check it out if you haven't seen it yet web page . Sounds sketchy.

When you order, go through LubeDude or walleyehed. Amsoil will assign you to somebody anyway, might as well be somebody that knows boats!

Re: Mobil 1 Full Synthetic

Ive used the product for years at 100:1. The new outbourd only 100:1 is even better. If you are running at WOT all the time you could use it at 80:1. One bottle to 5 gals istead of six. But if you use your boat like most the 100:1 is great. The 100:1 oil dosent have the solvents in it that the other 50:1 oils have so it really boils down to a richer mixture than you might think! Its just more condensed I guess you would call it.

Lubedude, I could run this oil on my 1997 15 hp Evinrude two stroke at 100:1? That would reduce the smoke somewhat...not that it smokes much at 50:1.

I use penzoil syn because it is good (actually is rebadged Itasca) and only $20 at walmart.
If I couldn't get that then I'd get Klotz (spec oil for Outboard Drag Boat Assoc) or Merc syn but it's high $$.

I dunno about amsoil. Some people swear by it but I've heard some engine builders talk **** about it.
